I’ve always thought that when a movie get really high rating in Douban, like above 9 out of 10, its enlightening part surpasses the entertainment part. For lots of the high score movies I find them far less than intriguing and often times, having tragic ending.
But that’s not the case with Flipped. I never have any expectation before watching that movie, merely considering it as a tool of practicing English listening. But it’s very, very interesting. When I went to Douban to see the critiques, loads of articles are praising about the educational enlightenment of the movies, like how the heroine’s family teach children, or other advanced reflections like how to face one’s true feeling, how to overcome obstacles… It’s clear that there are certain merits in the pedagogy of the girl’s family, but not reach to the level of inspiration for me. The whole movie for me is rather an entertainment, like some popular loving fiction, maybe because I am sort of a superficial person. And by the way, the protagonist is pretty handsome and cute.
