清代机制铜圆的铸造由广东伊始，1900年，两广总督德寿与前总督李鸿章奏准仿香港铜仙铸造机制铜圆。机制铜圆较之方孔铜钱铸造精良，市商乐用，流通顺畅。次年，清政府即谕令沿江沿海各省准许仿铸。尔后，全国各地纷纷开机铸造铜圆。In 1900, Governor Deshou of Guangdong and former Governor Li Hongzhang of Guangdong and Guangdong played a quasi-imitation of Hong Kong Tongxian Casting Machine Copper Round. Comparing with square hole copper coin, machine-made copper round is finer in casting, more commercial and smooth in circulation. The following year, the Qing government ordered the coastal provinces along the Yangtze River to permit imitation casting.
