The first teaser trailer for Disney's live-action remake of The Lion King has been released on Thanksgiving Day. In the trailer we see the familiar opening moments of the story, where Rafiki presents a young Simba to the animals of the Pride Lands.

The film is set for release in July 2019. The film will star Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé as Nala, and James Earl Jones, who is reprising his role as Mufasa. Over the weekend, lots of discussion focused on whether it was a "live action" version of the story, as initially hinted at by Disney last year.

Girish Balakrishnan, who worked in virtual production on this film, said it included "a unique form of virtual cinematography that seamlessly leverages motion capture and [virtual reality/augmented reality] technologies".
