我们读书的时候英语老师可能教过，fewer要跟可数名词复数搭配，比如fewer choices , fewer problems ，而less要跟不可数名词搭配，比如：less time , less effort 这一规则看起来简洁明了，也很好理解，但现实的英语使用情况比这个要复杂很多。 目前英语中有不少约定俗成的用法其实违反了这一规则，比如你之前可能见过类似下面这样的句子： (1) We made it there in less than six hours. (2) The whole procedure takes less than five minutes. 根据语法规则，six hours以及five minutes都是可数名词复数，理论上应该说fewer than six hours, fewer than five minutes 但less than XX minutes/hours/years 这样的说法已经成为惯用法。 类似的说法还有less than twenty dollars, less than three miles, less than 500 people 又比如在英美超市购物，如果你购物车里面的商品少于某个数量（一般是10件或8件）就可以走快速结账通
